Spicy Bread Roast

This is a South Indian bread preparation that is had for breakfast. It is more like a spiced French Toast and one can vary the spice level as desired. There are some days where I use more herbs; and on other days I prefer more spice – just to wake me up 🙂

Aloo & Cheese Ke Parathas (Potato & Cheese Parathas)

Aloo Cheese ParathasIn this version of the stuffed paratha, I have used the classic combination of potato and cheese. Having this paratha on a cold morning is something which I often look forward to as it’s gooey stuffing makes this delicious recipe worm its way to the top of my ‘Food To Eat In Winter’ list.

This spicy egg preparation is not for the faint-hearted – especially when one has to consume it for breakfast (as not many like a lot of spice for breakfast).

Waffles

WafflesThis is my version of the standard recipe for waffles. I like to have it for breakfast with a little bit of melted mutter and honey. Usually, I stew seasonal fruit; or, make a fruit crush/syrup to accompany the waffles.

Kheema Burji (Scrambled Eggs: Spiced Mince)

One of the popular breakfast items at the Irani restaurants in Mumbai, Kheema Burji is often had with Brun-Maska (which is the local hard bread, sliced and buttered generously). Many Scrambled Eggs Kheemaaccounts say that this is a Parsi specialty and at times, can also be garnished with potato straws.

The spice in the mutton is something that is often looked for as it acts as a ‘bang’ in the mouth to wake one up from slumber and to be ready for the day.

French Toast

Few hundred years ago, poor French families wanted to reuse their stale bread. They decided to soak their bread in a milk and egg mix and fry it, to make it easier to chew.

Today, French bread is quiet popular for breakfast. I French Toastremember sinking my teeth into this preparation as a kid and would look forward for the next time when it would be prepared at home. Today when I make French Toast, I either make it plain, or I twist it. Few options are to have it with a Honey Compound Butter, or sprinkle it with cinnamon sugar; or drizzle it with honey and then top it with almond slivers. YUM!!!

As a celebratory breakfast, I usually cut the bread slices into 1 inch thick slices and then fry it. It looks more dainty when arranged on a platter…..and sprinkle it with icing sugar.
