Mostly grown in South Asia, this popular grain has countless variants of prepared dishes. Every country has its own recipe of this grain and popular rice varieties would be the white, brown, red and black varieties.

Rice is typically rinsed/washed to remove the excess starch and is usually soaked to decrease cooking time. Rice is also soaked for several hours and then ground into batter to make several varieties of hoppers – which go very well with spiced dishes and curries.
